RiverStone Health has been tasked with working in Yellowstone, Big Horn, Carbon, Stillwater and Treasure Counties to educate physicians and the general public on prevention and the early detection of colorectal cancer. This is a new program at the state and local level and is in the early stages of development. The program is supported at the state level under their Cancer Control Program at the Montana Department of Health and Human Services.
The work plan that outlines the activities of our program has four main goals. The first is to build regional capacity for comprehensive cancer control through collaboration, strategic planning and program implementation with partners. The second goal is to contribute to implementation of Montana's Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan through advocacy and education. The thirds is to be a link for the Comprehensive Cancer Control program with existing regional initiatives that aim to reduce tobacco use, improve nutrition and physical activity, increase breast and cervical screening, and increase colorectal cancer screening. Our fourth goal is to increase colorectal cancer screening in our region.
There is an evidence based manual titled "How to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening Rate in Practice" that will be implemented in one physician's office within our region as a pilot project for increasing colorectal cancer screening. This is one of the main projects for our program as we hope to help other regional offices implement the same strategies for increasing colorectal cancer screening.
