The Healthy Places Advisory Committee provides a comprehensive approach to make Billings "healthy by design" and improve the quality of life for all residents. The initiative works to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. The initiative will promote healthy lifestyles through advocacy, outreach, education, and mobilization.
The Healthy Place Initiative plans to evaluate Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) as a tool for decision-making, advocacy and communications. The HIA uses a combination of procedures, methods, and tools to determine how a program or project is going to affect the health and wellness of the community.
Billings envisions "healthy by design" by having a few key attributes. The attributes include but are not limited to: available and affordable nutritious food; community connectedness; safety; a functional, interconnected transportation system for all users; worksite wellness programs; and smart growth. This program link all of Billings health and wellness programs to reach the overall goal of creating a community that is "healthy by design."
