Community members created BikeNet a nonprofit organization designed to help efforts to create and maintain trails in and around Billings' communities. This program's mission is to "advocate for trail education, acquisition and development of a county-wide trail that encourages safety, an alternate transportation mode, a healthy lifestyle, environmental preservation, and resource conservation within cost effective constraints." BikeNet hopes to create a network of trails throughout Billings to help promote healthy lifestyle choices.
BikeNet participates in many fun community events to help raise awareness of their efforts. BikeNet offers the community weekly group rides. The rides are hosted by different BikeNet volunteers who may be training for an athletic event, or just out for a nice ride on the trails they help maintain and build.
In September of 2008, BikeNet hosted their 8th annual Ales for Trails. Ales for Trails is BikeNet's largest fundraiser. Before the 8th annual Ales for Trails, BikeNet already raised over $100,000 for trail construction. At the festival there are over 40 different regional micro brewed beers, live music, insight to Billings' future plans for multi-use trails, and plenty of community members ready to support a good cause.
Board meetings are generally held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at CTA Architects Engineers, 13 North 23rd in Billings. The public is invited.
